The Time I Had a New Coffee Table for Four Hours

This past week has been a CRAZY total whirlwind of a week! I’m exhausted to say the least! Shane and I were running around like total maniacs trying to accomplish some major projects at our house. We had a big photo shoot this week! I hope to share the pictures and give you more details once I know a little more. It’s a big deal photo shoot for us, and it sent us into a total tailspin. We seriously accomplished so much this week! I spent a lot of time doing a bit of stylizing tweaks…all of which I plan to show you as soon as I catch my breath. Shane built and installed our closet doors. Whoop whoop! I ADORE them! On top of that major accomplishment, we collaborated on the most amazing coffee table ever! Shane is obviously the building genius behind the coffee table, and I helped with a vague design and did some metal grinding and sanding. It’s without a doubt my new favorite piece of furniture we own. It looks so amazing in our living room and really gives our living room a whole new feel.

But guess what…I only got to keep the coffee table for 4 hours. Major sad face! We had the coffee table in our house exactly long enough for our photo shoot, and then it got entered into an art show and contest, where it will stay until October. Bummer huh? At least I had time to snap a few photos to share with all of you.

Without further adieu, our new coffee table…

It started as just steel rods.

Shane welded together every piece of the steel base, and I used a dremel tool to grind all the welds smooth. The top is 2″ solid walnut. It’s a truly beautiful piece of wood!

I miss this table so much already! We snapped some photos outside before it was off to the art center in town.

I’ll be seeing this table again in October…Until then I’ll just be missing it.

Isn’t it crazy that this table was just ONE of the things we got done this past week!? More updates to come soon.

Couch Pillow Help!

Ok, so I need some help. I’m on the hunt for new couch pillows!

I’m going to be stealing the bigger pillows for the nursery. They always felt to big for the couch anyway and took up too much room. I got great suggestions for the rug dilemma. So, I thought I would see what kind of ideas you all have for pillows! I’m just having trouble finding anything I’m in love with. A fresh set of eyes always helps! Here are some inspiration pictures of pillow combos I like. Finding similar stuff in the real world is the trick!

Of course, part of me wants to go all white and neutral, but the other part of me wants color.

Something like this is beautiful, but finding pillows so perfect in the real world is tough.

I’m pretty obsessed with this mixed look, but don’t want my couch to be overrun with pillows. I’m thinking 4 max. So, I don’t know if I could accomplish the same look with only 4.

I love the clean white mixed with the bohemian look of these!

This mix is nice. I like that there’s some white mixed in with color and pattern.

So what do you all think? What’s going to work best for our space! Help me find some pillows! Here’s the doozy… We have a big photo shoot coming up (more on that later…it’s exciting stuff!!!) in about a week. Eeekkk! So I’d really like to have them by then. That leaves me stuck with express shipping or picking them up at a store. I’m not opposed to sewing a few pillow covers. So if you find some amazing fabric to tell!! Help help help! What do you think?

Five Favs!

I’m an image junky. One of my interior design professors way back when once said that, “all great designers bombard themselves with images of great spaces.” I’ve really taken that theory to heart, and now it’s such an easy thing to do with things like Pinterest. I spend lots and lots of time on Pinterest. Today, I thought it might be fun to change up my image gathering tactic a bit. I decided it would be fun to pick my five favorite images in each room category from pins I had already pinned. I thought you all might like to see, too! A bunch of beautiful house images are always fun!

A Special Mother’s Day

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day, and it’s time to recognize all the wonderful mothers in my life!

First, I want to give a special shout out to my sister Elisha Zavada! I don’t seem to have a single picture of her with her precious baby boy! I’m guessing that’s because none of us will let her hold her own baby when we are around. We can’t get enough of him!

It’s Elisha’s first Mother’s day!

She’s a brand new mom to this little super hero, Lucas. (Photo credit to Karl Poynter! and doodling credit to Lucas’ pretty awesome dad, Mark Zavada!) It’s so exciting to see my sister as a mom! I can’t wait to see this little boy grow up, and to see Elisha grow as a mother with him! It’s such exciting times in our family!

I also want to give huge recognition to this mom!

My grandma! She’s been such a rock in our family. She’s a beautiful example of the loving sacrifice that being a mother is all about. I can’t thank her enough for the loving mother she was to my mom, just as her mom was before her. It’s because of her that I had a loving mother like I had.

On this Mother’s day, the biggest thank you goes to my own mom! It has taken me years to realize what an amazing mother you were to us! Mostly, it has taken meeting people who’s mothers never even came close to being as present, as loving, as sacrificing, and nurturing as you for me to realize just how amazing you really have been to us. I guess I just always thought all moms gave as much as you. You made it seem so normal. You never complained, you were never too tired, you cared for us, you cooked for us, you maintained an immaculate house, you taught us what being a good person was all about, and you made it all look so easy. Perhaps your biggest accomplishment, you handled three teenage girls with grace. I truly hope that I can be a mom just like you. Just don’t think for a second your job is over, though! I’m sure I’ll be calling for advise a lot over the years with my own children! Thank you, Mom, for all you’ve done and continue to do.

Now for the moment of truth…

This Mother’s Day is extra special for me this year because…

Baby P Final

I’m going to be a mom, too! Shane and I are incredibly excited about this new chapter in our lives! We can’t wait to welcome our little baby Pribble into the world!  2013 was such an amazing year for us, full of excitement, traveling, and love! We had really high hopes for 2014 to top 2013, and let me tell you…we have not been let down! 2014 marks the beginning of the most rewarding, challenging, and exciting years to come in our lives. So this year, I’m celebrating Mother’s Day in a whole new way. I’m counting down the days until our little guy or girl is here with us!

To all you moms out there, thanks for all that you do! Enjoy your special day!

One King’s Lane House

Have you ever wished you could totally start over with your house and buy all new furniture and accessories? How fun would that be, right? Well, it’s not exactly practical or economical, but I like to dream anyway! So I’ve decided to start playing a new little game. There’s only one rule…Source everything from one store or website. Money is no object, and since this is for an imaginary new house, I’m only guessing what I would need. I had WAY more fun with this than I probably should have, but I’m a little strange like that. It was so fun for me to look without feeling constricted by price. I’m not really going to buy any of this. Most of it comes with a rather large price tag, but who said we can’t have a little fun with it anyway? The first Website on my list to source from was One King’s Lane. It’s a website with spectacular furniture in all sorts of styles. Here’s what I came up with… If this house had a theme “Navy Blue” would be it. I’m pretty in love with it and wish I could really have all of it for my very own!

OKL Living room

I’m OBSESSED with this couch. Isn’t it beautiful?! In this pretend scenario, I’m also pretending that I don’t have a white dog that sheds terribly. I could never pull off a dark navy couch, but I love it so much. In my dream world it’s mine! I’m not a matchy matchy person, so I chose two different chairs that I felt like worked really well together. How comfortable does that leather chair look? I love this rug since it has a bit of a Southwest feel, and that’s my thing. The coffee table is wire structure covered with rope. I love the added texture. I prefer a round coffee table, because everything else in the room is very square. Lastly, I chose a dresser as a TV stand. I love the warm color of the wood. Imagine this room with a huge black and white mountain scene hanging behind the couch. I would love that! I’m oh so in love with this living room! If only I could be in love with the price tag!

Couch $5,599

Rug $665

Arm Chair $729

Leather Chair $2,499

Dresser/TV Stand $2,279

Coffee Table $349

Living Room Total $ 12,120

Dining Room

The main feature of the dining room would be this B-E-A-utiful slab table! I truly adore the look of a HUGE slab table, but I’ve never been able to consider having one because of the HUUUUUGE price tag that always goes with it. This is dream land, though. There is no money in dream land, so slab table it is! I never want all my dining room chairs to match. It’s just not my thing. I would have two of the navy blue upholstered chairs at both ends of the table and the rope dining room chairs to fill in the middle. I love the different styles combined together. Mix matching chairs and chair styles isn’t everyone’s thing, but I have a pretty massive obsession with mixing styles. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love the look of traditional rugs. I always have loved them, but they can be pretty expensive. Therefore, I’ve never actually owned one. I own one in this fantasy, though! I wasn’t thrilled with One King’s Lane lighting options, but that’s part of the deal. I had to choose one. I went with this black chandelier. It maybe wouldn’t be my first choice, but given the options, I think this one works.

Slab Table $4,549

Rope Chair  $599 X 4

Navy Chair $949 x 2

Rug $1,849

Pendant Light $399

Dining Room Total $11,091

OKL Bedroom

I really want to wake up to this bedroom every single day!!! My absolute favorite part of the room is the rug. I love the traditional rug that’s made to look worn out. I love the color. I love the style. I love love love that rug! A close second to the rug is the bed. Occasionally, I’m drawn to this type of bed instead of a super clean and modern bed. I like the idea of a padded and upholstered bed, because bedrooms are supposed to be about comfort, right? I love the color of the bed with the rug. I’d even do white bedding just like that. At the end of the bed, I like to have a bench like this one. It makes a nice place to put on shoes. I chose this industrial style and masculine dresser to offset the feminine bed. I then just added a couple of bedside tables with industrial wall sconces for reading light. I like a round piece of art or mirror above beds, so I chose this sunburst mirror. Last, but definitely not least is a bright pop of color with a coral pillow. The bedroom might be my favorite room in my fake house!

Bed $899

Mirror $219

Side Table $299 X 2

Rug $5,419

Wall Sconce $59 X 2

Bench $949

Dresser $999

Pillow $39

Bedroom total $9,240

OKL Office

This is what I would do in an office. I wanted to go with a rug that was a little more contemporary. I’d just use a big dining table as a desk. I like the idea of having a desk that works more as a work table. I’m for sure in love with this leather bench. It’s just so pretty! I went with a simple white office chair, an industrial style book shelf and light, and then I brought in some navy blue with pillows that would hang out on the bench. I could certainly do some work in this office!

Table $1599

Rug $1,325

Bench $2,799

Office Chair $199

Pillow $69 X 2

Shelf $299

Lamp $1, 549

Office Total $7,908

I really really really love all of this furniture. I love how every room has the same vibe and goes well together, but at a whooping total of $40,359.00, It’s all completely out of the question! So why would I do this to myself? Why would I look at and fall in love with things I can’t afford? Well…good question. Sometimes I like to look beyond my reach. Not to feel sorry for myself, but sometimes you can see what your ideal style really is. All these pieces are my ideal style. Sometimes, it’s hard to realize what your true style is when you are hindered by price. Doing this every once in a while can help you hone in on your style. Then, you can mimic that style within your price range. Also, I just really have a lot of fun doing this! I’m a dreamer, what can I say? I plan to do this same thing with several other stores and websites. I plan to do IKEA next so the price should look dramatically different.

New Chair!

I’ve been obsessed with looking for a new chair to replace this blue one in our living room.

It’s not that I don’t like this chair, I really do. It’s more about the fact that it just felt a little out of place with the style of our living room. I plan to hang on to the chair because I know it could work in another room of the house. Maybe not this house but I’m certain I’ll use it in our next house!

In looking for a new chair to purchase, I gathered a ton of inspiration pictures of statement chairs in beautiful rooms.

I love the look and feel of these more architectural chairs. So I decided to see what I should find for my own house! Here were the first options:

1. I loved this butterfly chair from Urban Outfitters. I loved the idea of bringing leather into the mix in the living room. I’ve seen these types of chairs in many rooms and always loved the look of it.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 9.36.55 PM

2. Another option was this chair on Amazon. I love the shape and style of this chair but was hoping to find a chair with either wood or a brown leather element. While I do love this chair, I nixed it fairly quickly for my space.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 9.39.23 PM

3. This chair I adore oh so much! I love the wood and weave look and I’ve been seeing this chair pop up all over Pinterest in rooms that I adore. I think I would really love this chair at a table, but in my room I was hoping for more of a lounger.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 9.40.08 PM

3. This chair was an option mostly because of it’s shape and price. 2 chairs for $185.99! I wasn’t crazy about walnut-look finish, however.

Screen Shot 2014-02-17 at 9.42.03 PM

4. I really love this chair that I found while searching on Houzz. While it’s technically an outdoor chair, I think it could certainly work indoors as well. It was still missing that wood or brown leather element I was after, however.

Screen Shot 2014-02-18 at 2.38.49 PM

5. This is the chair I was desperately after. I love everything about it, but at $938 it felt pretty out of the question.

Screen Shot 2014-02-18 at 2.48.11 PM

In fact, I was starting to feel like any chair was pretty out of the question. We are really working hard to save money for out future home, so spending anything over $100 on a chair just didn’t feel right. Then this happened…..

Screen Shot 2014-03-19 at 2.09.22 PM

We were at IKEA on a mission to help our friends with some decorating in their house and Shane pointed out this chair. $60 What?!?! Shane quickly agreed we could get it and it really feels like the perfect chair for our room. This chair is also meant to be an outdoor chair, but I love it so much in the corner of our living room.

IKEA gets it right again! I love the way the chair looks, and it’s pretty comfortable too! We don’t sit in this corner except when guests are here. I see this chair and I having and nice, long, loving relationship. I have to admit two of these chairs side by side on a patio would look fantastic, too!

My 2 month long hunt for a new chair has finally come to an end. I’m so glad I was patient and waited for the perfect chair to come along.

Birthday Candle Holders

I have a real obsession with trinkets. I just like little “items” around the house that make you say, “hmmm.” So when I saw these candle holders on sale at Urban Outfitters, I had to have them!

Screen Shot 2014-02-15 at 10.20.15 PM

I know it’s a little silly to love these guys so much, but I just do. My mom asked for ideas of things to get me for my birthday so I told her these, and she got them for me! I’m really enjoying them on our TV stand.
