Current Wish List for My House

I’m accumulating quite the wish list for our house these days! That’s pretty much always the case! Most of it stems from the fact that we had to rearrange our bedroom, though. So, it’s not totally my fault! We rearranged in order to accommodate my leather shop in the bedroom. It’s totally not ideal at all, but I just wasn’t able to use my nice (and very expensive) industrial sewing machine as much as I wanted, because it was previously in the basement. Our basement is unfinished and totally not toddler proofed. It seemed a shame to have my sewing machine wasting away down there all alone. So we gave a little in the bedroom beauty department and moved it upstairs. I can’t want until someday when I have a dedicated sewing room but 1st world problems, right? The new setup in the bedroom has me wishing for some new furniture to make it function just a bit better. Hence, the wish list!

First up is a credenza. The space between the wall and the foot of the bed is a bit tight now, but we need something there to ground our TV. I hate that we are bedroom TV people, but we are. I have to have my bedroom TV! If it were up to me we’d run out and by a couple of cheap IKEA wall cabinets and put a wood top on them. That’s exactly what’s going on in the picture above, and how beautiful is that?!? Shane has informed me that, as a furniture maker, it’s basically a sin to buy IKEA furniture. Every time I do he nearly cries and throws a small fit. So…Shane’s going to build us something….he says, but that man is busy so we’ll see.

We also now have a small open wall that would be perfect for a little “put on your shoes” bench. I love the look of something woven like this bench that’s no longer available. 😦 I’m thinking we will likely end up DIYing something! Unless I end up breaking down and buying that Nate Berkus fringe bench at Target.

It practically jumps into my cart every time I’m at target buying diapers.

It totally dawned on me the other day that our bedside lamps don’t go with our overhead light in the slightest. I don’t know how I totally over looked that for so long, but it’s gotta change. Our white wall lamps are feeling a bit lost now anyway with the rearranging. These guys from Lowe’s are SUPER cheap and I love them!

Admittedly our house is very lacking in the art department. That’s something I’d like to change! We basically only have a circus poster I took off a wall when we were in Germany. (After the circus had left town, and I still felt guilty about it!) I just can’t decide if I want to buy art or not. Shane and I could easily paint something like this. It’s just finding the time. Either way more art is definitely on my wish list.

We aren’t having too much of a problem with toys overrunning our lives….yet. I want to be ahead of the game, though! A friend of mine gave me the idea of having a “toy store.” She says weekly her kids go to the “store” and pick out a few toys for the week. We have a closet similar to this that I would Like to make into a “store!” I’m thinking of a daily trip to the store, where Jolie gets to pick out a few toys for the day instead of spreading ALL of her toys across the entire house everyday. I WILL find a way to make it seem a little less like Barbie threw up in the closet, though. I can’t take it….even if it is behind a closet door…

There’s my wish list! Maybe it’s not so bad, really! It’s pretty short. Wouldn’t you say? I’ll let you know if we ever get any of these items knocked out!

  1. I want some of those Ikea cabinets too, I’m thinking a set of Bestas floating for the living room for extra storage, but I’m torn between buying them or building something ourselves, it’s just so tempting to take the easy shortcut of buying it because putting it together is so much easier and not having to sand and paint them too. I have those beside lamps from Lowes they are great I love them, you can’t beat the price! You can see how they look in our bedroom on my blog if you’de like
And I seriously wish I could keep my daughters toys this organized tucked away in closet!

    • Thanks for sharing the lamps! That probably made the decision for me! I’m going to have to get them! They are such a great size! Bigger than I expected!! I would totally go the IKEA route if my husband wasn’t so picky! Luckily he will be the one doing all the sanding and painting! 😉
