So, obviously my blogs have been few and far between over the past few moths. Ever since I found out we are having a baby I’ve been a bit distracted…
Come December, It’s going to be Shane, Emily, and baby Pribble! Baby, baby, baby is all I can seem to think about. So my blogging took a bit of a hit until we were ready to break the news to everyone.
So here’s the lowdown. Honesty is always my policy so here’s all your questions answered!
Was this baby planned?
Shane and I have always wanted kids. Shane wanted to be a fairly young parent, and I wanted to be 40 when I had my first child! Ok, maybe not exactly 40, but I really wasn’t in a hurry. I felt like we had plenty of time. Shane and I had compromised on a 2-3 year plan. We set our sights on having our first somewhere around age 30. Things don’t always go as planned, do they? We will both be 27 when our little bundle arrives. Though this baby wasn’t exactly planned, he or she was always in the plan. This little guy or girl will be making their entrance a couple years early, and that’s ok. What’s a couple years in the scheme of life anyway? So someday when this little one asked if they were planned the answer will be, “Yes!” After all, they were always part of the plan! We couldn’t be more excited regardless of the timing.
How long have you known you were pregnant?
We’ve known for a while now. I’m only 11 weeks along so we really knew right away. We waited to tell anyone until we felt confident we were passed the scary stages. At my 10 week appointment we could hear a strong heartbeat on a Doppler. The Dr told us that once you can hear the heartbeat with a doppler your chances of miscarrying plummet. We are of course still praying for a healthy developing baby.
When are you due?
We are due December 1st! I’m 11 weeks along today.
Do you want a boy or a girl?
We want HEALTHY! We really have no preferences at all. Raising a child is intimidating regardless of their gender!
How do you feel?
I am praising God for good pregnancy genes! None of the woman in my family ever had morning sickness. I have also been blessed with no sickness! I had about a week around 6 weeks that nothing sounded appetizing. I ate a ton of watermelon that week. It was really the only thing that I wanted. Since that week I’ve felt pretty good! I have the occasional indigestion, gas, and heartburn. You know all that lovely stuff, but I’ll take it! I’m just SOOOOOOO glad I’m not one of your pregnant pukers. I really don’t know how you do it! I wouldn’t be able to! I did also have a pretty emotional week in there. Poor Shane put up with me, though. He also laughed at me when an episode of “Parenthood” brought on a good 10 minutes of uncontrollable crying. Who can blame me, though? That show is a tear jerker even when your hormones are in check! Luckily for Shane, the crazy emotions seem to have leveled off.
Has anything surprised you about pregnancy?
YES! I had NO idea the constant peeing started so early! I mean I had NO IDEA! I was under the impression that when you have a huge 8 month pregnant baby belly sitting on your bladder is when the frequent peeing began. People should really warn woman of this! I already feel like I’m peeing ALL THE TIME! I got up 4 times last night to pee! I can’t imagine what it will be like when you add the big pregnant belly sitting on my bladder into the mix.
Have you been thinking about names?
Naming a human is soooooooooo hard!!! We’ve been trying to pick out a couple boy names and a couple of girl names, and we haven’t gotten very far! Shane and I both like unusual names, but nothing too incredibly awkward. We’ve kind of stopped the name hunt for now. We will pick it back up at 20 weeks when we find what we are having!
Will you find out the gender?
YES! I’m most excited about finding out what we are having. I feel like this will all feel so much more real when we know if we are bringing home a little boy or girl.
Are you freaking out a little?
Um, absolutely! I know parenthood will be one of the most challenging things Shane and I will ever do! It is scary to say the least! I’m just hoping what everyone says is actually true. You just short of figure it out as you go and most of it comes naturally. We may be a little scared, but luckily the fear is balanced out by the extreme excitement!
What does Shane say about all of this?
Last night while we were grilling dinner Shane said, “I am REALLY excited about having a kid!” It was so sweet! I think it’s just now starting to really hit him. When you aren’t the pregnant one, I can imagine its even harder to wrap your brain around the fact that we are actually having a baby! He talks about it a lot more these day, though. I think it’s really setting in. He did also mention that he wishes the baby would come out as a two year old instead. Hahaha. He’s very excited about the playing stage. I’m sure we will be playing before we know it, watching Little League before we know it, crying at graduation before we know it, and holding our own grandchildren before we know it!
One of the first things I remember Shane saying when we found out we were having a baby was, “I feel like this is the moment when our life starts flying by.” He’s probably right. We are about to hop on the crazy life roller coaster, and I’m determined to enjoy every minute of the ride!
