Defining My Style

Lately, I’ve been really trying to define my style. It’s ever evolving, but I want to have a good sense of what it is exactly. So I’ve decided to try to come up with a few words to describe the style I love. Here’s what I’ve come up with….

1. Southwestern:

Keep in mind that my style is not entirely Southwestern. I just have tendencies that swing a bit Southwestern.

I tend to be a sucker for Southwestern textiles.

A lot of my Southwestern vibe comes from basket weave items scattered around my home.

I love the mix of items above. A lot of it is definitely my style, and they have a Southwestern feel. I am currently loving cowhides like whats on the chair. (Although, I prefer faux hides.)

The skull head and the fur hides gives the above space a Southwestern feel.

Like the picture above sometimes a Southwestern style can be as subtle as the terra-cotta color of this chair, and the Southwestern feel of the plant.

I love this Southwestern wall hanging!

2. Midcentury Modern:

I tend to go for Midcentury Modern pieces when it comes to furniture. I am especially drawn to Midcentury Modern chairs like these.

3. Industrial:

Aside from my Southwestern and Midcentury Modern tendencies, I tend to be drawn to industrial style pieces. It’s not something that is quite as prevalent in my home as the other two styles, but it’s still something that I love…Especially when it comes to lighting.

Here are some examples of Industrial pieces I love.

4. Scandinavian Design:

Lastly, I seem to be drawn to the look of Scandinavian Interiors. I like that they are minimalistic with tons of white and black. My style is never as stark as true Scandinavian interiors, but I tend to lean that direction at times.

I love these black and white details.

So that’s my style! Southwestern, Midcentury Modern, Industrial, Scandinavian. It’s nice to kind of nail out exactly what I love. It can be really helpful to have a description of your style. It can come in handy when you are picking up new pieces for your home. You can ask yourself, “Does this fit my Southwestern, Midcentury Modern, Industrial, Scandinavian style?” I’m often drawn to pieces in other styles, but they never end up fitting into my style once they are in my house. Defining your style can keep you from picking up pieces that you’ll end up being dissatisfied with in the end. Knowing your style can give you a more specific plan for your home. I’m excited to have a clear vision, and I can’t wait to continue developing my home in this direction.

What’s your style??
